Utah Women are Collaborative

August 2021

This month’s featured woman is fearless community organizer Edith Melendez. She believed in the power of grassroots efforts and brought people together to protect civil rights through the Spanish-Speaking Organization for Community, Integrity, and Opportunity (SOCIO). Edith spent her life working to end racism, police brutality, and sexism.

We’ll feature women on our social media throughout the month who made Utah a better place by bringing people together, including:

  • Pacific Islander community leader Margarita Satini.
  • SLC NAACP president Alberta Henry.
  • And rural Utah suffragist Lucy Heppler, who inspired the next generation to stand up for women’s rights.
